Keep your files safe, move them, or get them back

Most people don't think about backups until the day they need one. I set up backups that run on their own, move everything to your new computer, and give you a straight answer when a drive starts failing. Starting at $195.

What I do

Four ways I keep your files safe

Local & cloud backups

Automatic and tested, so you never have to remember. Family photos, tax returns, business records.

Migrations & transfers

Old PC to new, Mac to PC, phone to phone. Your files, email, bookmarks and settings come with you.

Failing-PC rescue

Slow, freezing or won't start? We get your files off first and worry about the repair second.

NAS & shared storage

A shared network drive for a home or small office when it fits. If it doesn't, I'll tell you.

Know the difference

What I recover, and what needs a lab

Data recovery is really two different jobs. I'll tell you which kind yours is before you spend a dime.

I do: logical recovery
  • Accidentally deleted or overwritten files
  • Corrupted or missing partitions
  • PCs and drives that still spin up and respond
  • Copying data off a failing-but-readable drive
Clean-room lab: physical damage
  • Clicking, grinding or silent drives
  • Water, fire or impact damage
  • Drives not detected at all

I don't open drives. If yours needs a lab, I'll stop before anything gets worse and help you find a reputable one.

Do this first

If a drive is failing, stop using it

Every restart and every retry can make it worse. Turn it off, leave it off, and text me.

Common questions

Can you recover a dead hard drive?
I handle logical recovery: deleted files, damaged partitions, drives that are failing but still readable, and PCs that won't start. Drives with physical damage (clicking, not spinning, water or fire) need a clean-room lab. I'll tell you early and point you to a good one rather than gamble with your data.
What's the difference between logical and clean-room recovery?
Logical recovery uses software on a drive that still responds. Clean-room recovery means opening the drive in a dust-free lab to repair physical damage. Opening a drive anywhere else can destroy what's on it.
How many backups do I need?
The rule I follow is 3-2-1: three copies, on two kinds of storage, with one kept offsite. In real life that means your computer, a backup drive at home, and a copy in the cloud.
