Why your printer says "Offline" when it isn't
Short version: the printer's address changed, or the computer is pointed at the wrong one.
The usual causes
- The printer's IP address changed. The router handed it a new one and your computer is still calling the old address.
- Wrong port or duplicate printer. Windows has two copies of the printer and you're using the dead one.
- Printer moved to a different network. After a router swap or a mesh system, the printer is on a different Wi-Fi than the computer.
- Sleep mode. Some printers drop off the network when idle.
What I do
Give the printer a fixed address (a reservation on the router), reinstall it once on the right port, and delete the duplicates. Then it stays fixed instead of breaking again next month.
A quick try at home
Turn the printer off and on, confirm it shows the same Wi-Fi network name as your computer, then remove and re-add it. If it goes offline again within days, it's the address issue, and that's a fast fix.
